No. 03b / The Monitoring Agent
ChatGPT / Perplexity / Gemini / Claude / Copilot
We track who AI recommends. By name, by query, by engine.
The Monitoring Agent watches your citations across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Bing Copilot. It measures your AI referral traffic through GA4 pattern matching, tracks the competitors being recommended on your queries, and surfaces it all in your Campaign / AI Visibility view in Studio, so you can see where you stand.
Engine-by-engine tracking
How do we measure each engine?
Each AI engine works differently, so each one is measured differently. We track citation presence (is your name in the answer?) and referral traffic (are users clicking through?) for every one.
ChatGPT
Engine 01
We run your trigger queries against the live model on an ongoing schedule and check whether your URL appears in the response. GA4 pattern matching on chat.openai referrals tracks when ChatGPT users click through to your site.
Perplexity
Engine 02
Perplexity shows source URLs directly, making it the most measurable engine. We track both citation presence (is your URL listed?) and click-through referrals from perplexity.ai in your GA4 data.
Google Gemini
Engine 03
We monitor Gemini recommendations and Google AI Overviews for your category queries. GA4 pattern matching on gemini.google referrals tracks actual visitor traffic from the Gemini surface area.
Claude
Engine 04
We check whether Claude's knowledge includes your business entity when prompted with your trigger queries. GA4 pattern matching on claude.ai referrals tracks click-through traffic.
Bing Copilot
Engine 05
We track copilot.microsoft referrals in GA4 and monitor Bing's Copilot answers for your category queries. Bing's citation format makes source attribution relatively straightforward.
The four feeds
What does the Monitoring Agent watch?
Four feeds: your citations, your AI referral traffic, your named competitors, and your site health.
Your citations across the engines we track.
Regular trigger-query runs against ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Bing Copilot. We track which engines are citing you and which queries trigger your name. If you lose a citation, we flag it for recovery work before your next report.
Your AI referral traffic.
GA4 pattern matching identifies visits from AI engine domains (chat.openai, perplexity.ai, gemini.google, claude.ai, copilot.microsoft). You see the exact session count, user count, and conversion count from each AI source in your AI Visibility dashboard.
Your competitors, by name.
We track the three to ten competitors most often recommended on your trigger queries. When a new name starts appearing, we investigate why. When an old name drops, we move to take their spot. Your Campaign overview shows competitor positioning alongside your own.
Your site health and agent output.
Schema drift, broken structured data, lost crawler access, new pages not indexed, applied changes that are not yet showing impact. Technical signals often move before the visibility score does. The SEO Agent and Monitoring Agent work in tandem: one ships, the other watches.
Inside Studio
Where do you see it all?
In Studio, your client dashboard. Every number lands in one place, refreshed automatically. And because the SEO Agent logs its changes in the same place, you can see what we changed and what the engines said about it, side by side. Our methodology explains how the two agents work as one programme.
Campaign / AI Visibility
AI Referral Sessions, AI Users, AI Conversions, AI percentage of total traffic, and a platform breakdown chart showing which engine is sending the most visits. Updated on each GA4 refresh cycle.
Campaign / Overview
Your live SEO Score (0 to 100), AEO Score (0 to 100), and GEO Score (0 to 100), each graded A through F. The overview card shows period-over-period trends so you can see whether each score is rising, stable, or needs attention.
Campaign / Changes
Every SEO Agent change that is applied to improve your monitoring signals: new schema, updated entity markup, llms.txt configuration, AI crawler permissions. Each change shows its impact on the relevant score.
Monthly Report
An executive summary with the three biggest wins, the three biggest risks, and recommendations for the next period. Includes all three scores, citation counts by engine, and traffic attribution. Published to your dashboard monthly and walked through on your strategy call.
Common questions
Questions we get about the Monitoring Agent.
What does the Brain Buddy AI Monitoring Agent check?
Two things: what AI engines are saying about you, and whether your site is still sending the right signals. It tracks citation presence across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Bing Copilot, and it audits your tracked pages with scored checks across six categories: schema, content, technical, AEO, GEO, and visibility.
How often does the Monitoring Agent run?
Citation checks and site audits run on an ongoing schedule for every active client, and our team can trigger a run at any time. Each audit stores a snapshot with performance data from Google Analytics and Search Console, so trends are visible over time in Studio.
How does the Monitoring Agent use Google Analytics data?
It connects to your GA4 and Search Console to enrich every audit with real performance data. Each snapshot includes clicks, impressions, CTR, keyword positions, sessions, traffic trends, and AI referral visits, so the technical health score and the real-world performance sit side by side in Studio.
What happens when the Monitoring Agent detects a problem?
When a score drops sharply or a critical check fails, an alert is raised in our staff dashboard and a senior SEO investigates. If the fix is one the SEO Agent can ship, it is proposed, approved, and applied like any other change, and we check the live page afterwards.
